Meet Rosie

Here’s what her foster has to say:

Rosie was found abandoned in rural Western New York with her buddy Bo, both in rough shape after a run-in with a porcupine. I was able to trap them and get them to the vet, where Rosie’s condition turned out to be even worse than we thought. Along with painful quills in her face, she had a serious uterine infection and was later diagnosed with Lyme disease. The vet wasn’t sure she’d make it, but Rosie is a fighter.

She was adopted by a kind older couple, and we originally estimated her age to be around 5. But after a long road of antibiotics, a spay surgery, healing time, and finally a healthy diet, Rosie bounced back with the energy and spirit of a much younger dog. We now believe she’s closer to 2 years old.

Rosie is high-energy and playful, and she loves her person deeply. She’s come a long way with her manners, no more jumping or chewing shoes! She’s learned to use the doggie door and spends most of her time outside romping with Trixie (another dog) and even the goat.

Once she had the chance to burn off some of her built-up energy, she became noticeably calmer. Rosie would thrive in a home with another young dog to play with and would do best with a fenced yard or open space to run around. She’s loyal and doesn’t stray far, she knows where home is. Even when the gate has been open, she always comes right back when called.

Rosie is shy around strangers and tends to avoid them, especially when unfamiliar people are working on the property. She doesn’t show aggression, just nervousness and a desire to keep her distance. With time and the right environment, her confidence will continue to grow.
